プシェメクより、はじめまして。

自分自身のことを語るのはなかなか難しいことですが、FIGARO.jpでブログをスタートするにあたって、まずは僕が一体何者なのか？！について書きたいと思います。

周りは僕のことをイラストレーターとか、アートディレクター、もしくはデザイナーと呼びますが、クリエイティブなプロジェクトをやってます。ビジュアルに関する仕事をしている、と言うのが一番シンプルなんじゃないかと思います。僕のルーツはデザインとアートに深く根ざしていて、僕ができる自己表現の一つがイラストレーションであるのもそれが理由なのかも知れません。

私はクライアントと一緒にお仕事がするのが好きだったので、今まで自分自身の作品を展示することはほとんどありませんでした。今回久しぶりに個展をやることに決めましたが、それは自分にとっては大きなチャレンジです。

まず第一に、それをオーガナイズするにはとても大きなエネルギーが必要ですし、それと同時に過去と未来を見るために、そしてあらゆるレベルで自分自身に正直になるために、忙しい日々において突然立ち止まって自身の内面を深く掘り下げ、外側と内側を見つめ直さなければなりません。それには時間と、突然、外の世界に自分をさらけ出すような度胸が要求されますし、難しい判断が必要になります。

僕は決めました……。そうして実現したのが今回の展示会「Midnight Garden UNTOLD」。

この展示会における僕の出発点は、大好きなアートディレクションとデザインプロジェクトのひとつである、台湾の歌手ジョアンナ・ワンのアルバムMIDNIGHT CINEMAのCDジャケットと、そのアルバムのアートワーク用に私が特別に作ったMidnight Gardenです。

この展示会の作品は、ファッションとストーリーテリングを主要な糸口にして、僕のクラシックなイラストレーションのムードから、より抽象的で実験的な手法までを扱い、さらにひねりをかけました。

展示会には、制作段階中のZINEのプレビューも数ページ展示します。ZINEの内容は、2014年、僕が企画をしてホテルニューオータニにて行なった、ジョアンナと有名な婦人帽子職人であるスティーブン・ジョーンズとの対話を元にしたものです。

I have found it quite “tricky” to talk about myself, to make a proper introduction what I really do. 

People call me an Illustrator,  Art director or designer but I guess the simplest way to put it is that I work on creative projects - mostly visually. My roots are deep in design and art, maybe that is why illustration is one of the way I can express myself.

I love working with clients and not really often I exhibit my very personal work - till now. After a long time I have decided to have my solo exhibition which is a big challenge for me. 

First of all it requires a big chunk of energy to organise it, and secondly it forces me to STOP suddenly /which is difficult in everyday busy life/ and look deep inside, then outside and inside again, to look backwards and forwards and to be particularly honest with yourself on many levels. It takes time and it takes courage as suddenly you need to show yourself to the outside world and with this comes always a judgment.

I have made my decision… and that is how Midnight Garden UNTOLD comes to life.

For this exhibition my starting point was one of my favourite art direction and design project: MIDNIGHT CINEMA - album /cd jacket/ by Taiwanese singer Joanna Wang, and particular Midnight Garden I have created for the album's art work.

With this exhibition I am putting an extra twist on it, using fashion and story telling as my main leads, and taking it from my classic illustration mood into more abstract and experimental way.

Exhibition will also include preview of few pages of work-in-progress ZINE, which is based on conversation by Joanna and Stephen Jones, renowned milliner, which I arranged and which took place in New Otani Hotel in 2014.
