ディオールが最新のオートクチュール ファッションショーを開催するため、はるばる東京にやってきた。このショーはこの街のファッション狂にとって、今月のハイライトの1つである。他のハイライトの多くも、オープンしたての巨大な高級品とファッションの流行の的であるGINZA SIXと関連するものであった。

大変忙しいStephen Jones (スティーブン・ジョーンズ) と再会し近況を話し合ったときのことである。Stephenは世界中のファッション業界の大物のための帽子を担当している婦人用帽子の製造人で、何より20年以上にわたりディオールの「ヘッドドレス」の背後にいる名匠だ。かつてJohn Galliano (ジョン・ガリアーノ) と仕事をし、その後Raf Simons (ラフ・シモンズ) と、今はMaria Grazia Chiuri (マリア・グラツィア・キウリ) と仕事をしている。
僕はStephenと個人的な知り合いで、友人と呼べるのは、幸せなことだと思う。デザイナーとして、創造における原動力として、驚異的なストーリーテラーとして、そして、おそらく業界で1番素敵な人物として、彼のことを本当に尊敬している。

1 - Dior (ディオール) でJohn Galliano (ジョン・ガリアーノ)、Raf Simons (ラフ・シモンズ)、Maria Grazia Chiuri  (マリア・グラツィア・キウリ) といった偉大な、それでいてそれぞれ非常に異なるデザイナー3人と働いてこられましたね。各人と働く上で感じられた“化学反応”を (簡潔に) 述べていただけますか?

John Gallianoは物語の語り部で、彼の散文に私が句読点をつけます。Raf Simonsは近代主義者で、私が過去と未来を融合させました。Maria Grazia Chiuri (マリア・グラツィア・キウリ) は即興詩人。私が彼女の声のボリュームを上げます。

2 - 自身のブランドとDiorのようなブランドで帽子の作品を作る一番の大きな違いは何ですか?

Diorはフランス流の美学に則っていなくてはいけませんが、私のものはとてもイギリス流です。

Dior Maison has brought its latest haute couture fashion show all the way to Tokyo, which was one of the highlights of this month fashion madness in the city - in most cases in connection of just newly opened enormous luxury and fashion craze GINZA SIX.

On the occasion I could catch up with very-busy-Stephen Jones - a milliner responsible for hat pieces for the biggest names in the fashion and show-business, and most of all a master behind Dior “head-dresses” for over 2 decades, previously working with John Galliano, then Raf Simons and now Maria Grazia Chiuri.

I am lucky to know Stephen personally and to call him a friend - someone I do really look up to as a designer, creative force, an amazing storyteller and probably the nicest person in the industry.

 

5 Question with STPEHEN JONES

1 - You have been working with three great but very different designers at Dior - John Galliano, Raf Simons and Maria Grazia Chiuri

- could you describe the “chemistry” of working with each of them?

John Galliano is a storyteller and I put the punctuation on his prose, Raf Simons was a modernist  and I blended the Past and the Future, and Maria Grazia Chiuri is a Realtime Poet, and I put up her volume.

2 - what is the biggest difference in creating hat-piece for your own brand and for brand such Dior?

Dior has to be a French aesthetic, mine very British.

3 - Do you remember your first hat designed for Dior?

For the FETE DES CATHERINETTES A FESTIVAL OF THE HAUTE COUTURE.

4 - What is your personal meaning of “hat”?

A Party on Your Head.

5 - Could you describe your latest collaboration work for Dior haute couture collection which was presented here in Tokyo last week?

Living a Dream.
